It is that time of the year! The air is crisp and soon snow will blanket the ground where some of you live. If you haven’t started making soap for the holidays, it is time. This soap smells like you are walking through the woods on a wintry day. The design of this soap is super easy to accomplish and is quite stunning

(1) 1 lb Coconut Oil - 76º Melt
(1) 1 lb Olive Oil - Refined A
(1) 2 oz Shea Butter - Natural

Recipe Ingredients:
Measure ingredients with a scale or precise measuring tool.

• 8 oz. Distilled Water
• 4.10 oz. Sodium Hydroxide Flakes
• 12 oz. Coconut Oil - 76º Melt
• 10 oz. Olive Oil - Refined A
• 2 oz. Shea Butter - Natural
• 2 oz. Hemp Seed Oil - Virgin (Dark Green)
• 2 oz. Soybean Oil
• 1.5 oz. Windsong Balsam Pine - EO & FO Blend 519
• 1/8 Teaspoon(s) Azure Blue Mica Powder
• 1/4 Teaspoon(s) Matte Woodland Green Pigment Powder
• 1 Teaspoon(s) Sparkle White Snow Mica Powder

Directions:
NOTE: This project and these instructions have been written for someone who has experience making soap and knows the potential dangers due to working with sodium hydroxide. It will not outline safety methods of working with dangerous chemicals, it is simply a soap recipe for advanced soapmakers.
  1. Prepare the lye solution by weighing the water and lye in two separate containers. Pour the lye into the water, carefully mix in a well-ventilated area and set aside to cool while you prepare your oils.
  2. Melt the solid oils (coconut 76 and shea butter) either by microwave or stovetop. Melt just until melted and no more.    
  3. Add the liquid oils to melted oils to bring the temperature down. Add the fragrance oil and stir.
  4. Once the lye has cooled down to under 90° F, pour the lye solution into oils and blend until very light trace.
  5. Divide the soap into three containers.
  6. Add the blue mica powder to one container and quickly stick blend until mixed. Repeat for the woodland green pigment and for the white mica.
  7. Your soap has probably thickened up a bit. That’s okay and usually works well with this design. 
  8. Starting with the white, pour a strip of soap down the center of the mold. Continuing with one of the green soaps, pour a strip of soap down the middle of the mold on top of the white soap. Repeat for the other green. Repeat until the mold is full. Thicker soap produces bigger color parts as in the picture of the soap. Thinner pours create smaller color parts. 
  9. Allow your soap to harden overnight and unmold the next day. If the soap is too soft, allow soap to harden for 48 hours.
  10. Cut and cure for a minimum of four weeks. 
To Use: Lather onto wet skin and rinse with warm water. Avoid contact with eyes.
