Watermelon CP Loaf Soap Recipe

About This Recipe:

Summer is here and there is nothing like a juicy ripe watermelon in the summer. Your customers will take one smell of this bar and want to use it right away. The pink flesh part and green “rind” will make your customers take a double look. Great project for a family summer reunion, birthday or any special occasion.

(1) 2 lb Sodium Hydroxide Flakes

(1) 1 lb Palm Oil

(1) 1 lb Coconut Oil - 76º Melt

(1) 1 lb Olive Oil - Refined A

(1) 2 oz Mango Butter - Refined

(1) 2 fl. oz Fresh Picked Watermelon* FO 642

(1) 2.5 gm Bag Matte Woodland Green Pigment Powder

(1) 2.5 gm Bag Activated Charcoal - Hardwood

(1) 2.5 gm Bag Neon Pink Hot Pants Powder

(1) 1 Mold Regular Loaf Silicone Mold 1501

Recipe Ingredients:

• 9.74 oz. Distilled Water
• 5.87 oz. Sodium Hydroxide Flakes
• 14 oz. Palm Oil
• 9 oz. Coconut Oil - 76º Melt
• 9 oz. Olive Oil - Refined A
• 2 oz. Mango Butter - Refined
• 2 oz. Fresh Picked Watermelon* FO 642
• 1 Teaspoon(s) Matte Woodland Green Pigment Powder
• 1 Teaspoon(s) Activated Charcoal - Hardwood
• 1 Teaspoon(s) Neon Pink Hot Pants Powder

Equipment From Home:

• (1) Polypropylene Pitcher
• (1) Polypropylene Container for lye
• (1) Microwave-Safe Container (64 oz.)
• (1) Microwave
• (1) Double Boiler (optional)
• (1) Spatulas
• (3) Plastic Containers for color (10 oz. or larger)
• (1) Measuring Spoons
• (1) Thermometer - Digital
• (1) Stick Blender
• (1) Skewer or Chopstick
• (1) Soap Slicer

Directions:

NOTE: This project and these instructions have been written for someone who has experience making soap and knows the potential dangers due to working with sodium hydroxide. It will not outline all safety methods of working with dangerous chemicals, it is simply a soap recipe for advanced soapmakers.

1. Prepare the lye solution by weighing the water and lye in two separate containers. Pour the lye into the water, carefully mix in a well-ventilated area and set aside to cool while you prepare your oils.
2. Melt the Coconut 76° Oil, Mango Butter and Palm Oil in double boiler or microwave until melted.
3. Add the Olive Oil and stir. Set oils aside.
4. While lye water is cooling, prepare your colors.
5. In first mixing bowl or pour pitcher, place 1 tsp. of the activated charcoal with a few drops of your melted mixed oils and stir. This helps break down clumps of color when adding to the soap batter. Set aside.
6. In second container, add 1 tsp. of the Neon Pink Powder with a few drops of your melted mixed oils to break up the color. Set aside.
7. In third container, add 1 tsp. of the Woodland Green Pigment with a few drops of your melted mixed oils to break up the color. Set aside.
8. When lye water has cooled, pour lye into liquid oils and hand stir for a minute with the stick blender. Then blend with small bursts and stir until it is emulsified to a light trace.
9. Add fragrance oil and hand stir for a minute. Then, use a stick blender until it is completely blended.
10. Pour 8-10 oz. of soap batter into container with the Woodland Green Pigment. Stir until completely blended.
11. Pour 4-6 oz. of soap batter into the container with the Activated Charcoal and stir until completely blended.
12. Pour the rest of the batter into the container with the Neon Pink color and stir until completely blended.
13. Place the silicone mold on a flat surface.
14. Pour the pink batter into the mold slowly, making sure not to get any on the sides of the mold.
15. Holding the container with the activated charcoal batter about 12 inches above the mold, pour the batter making a stream into the soap. Make 8-10 spots where you let the batter stream down. Take a skewer and go back and forth once - do not over swirl. 
16. Tap mold gently on counter.
17. Gently pour the green batter over the top making the "rind". If you like, you can add a touch of black and swirl on top.
18. Let sit for 24-48 hours in mold.
19. Remove soap from mold and slice into bars. If necessary, you can put loaf in freezer for 45 minutes to help remove from the mold.
20. Let soap cure for 4-6 weeks.
21. Label product accordingly.

To Use: Lather onto wet skin and rinse with warm water. Avoid contact with eyes.
