Pumpkin Mocha Latte CP Soap Recipe

About This Recipe:

This soap is like comfort food in soap form. The warm colors make you think of fall and pumpkin pie while the scent is comforting and will make you yearn for that once-a-year drink from you know where!

11/2019: Pumpkin Mocha Latte Fragrance Oil 874 has been discontinued. This will need to be replaced with a fragrance previously tested to work in CP.

Recipe Ingredients:

• 10.64 oz. Distilled Water
• 3.99 oz. Sodium Hydroxide Flakes
• 15.12 oz. Olive Oil - Pomace
• 7 oz. Coconut Oil - 76º Melt
• 4.20 oz. Palm Oil
• 0.84 oz. Shea Butter - Natural
• 0.84 oz. Castor Oil
• 1.75 oz. Pumpkin Mocha Latte Fragrance Oil (Special Order)
• 0.85 oz. Vanilla Color Stabilizer - CP Soap
• 0.50 oz. Sodium Lactate 60%
• 1/2 Teaspoon(s) Siesta Sunset Orange Mica Powder
• 1/2 Teaspoon(s) Copper Runway Glitz Mica Powder
• 1 Teaspoon(s) Titanium Dioxide Pigment Powder - For Oil
• 1/8 Teaspoon(s) Chocolate Brown Mica Powder

• (1) Microwave-Safe Measuring Cup (64 oz.)

• (1) Funnel Pitchers or Plastic Containers
• (1) Thermometer - Digital
• (1) Stick Blender
• (1) Skewer for swirling

Directions:

NOTE: This project and these instructions have been written for someone who has experience making soap and knows the potential dangers due to working with sodium hydroxide. It will not outline all safety methods of working with dangerous chemicals, it is simply a soap recipe for advanced soapmakers.

1. Prepare the lye solution by weighing the water and lye in two separate containers. Pour the lye into the water, carefully mix in a well-ventilated area and set aside to cool while you prepare your oils. 
2. In a microwave-safe container, add measured oils and butters and melt in the microwave. Set aside to cool. 
3. In two separate plastic beakers measure your sodium lactate and fragrance oil mixed with vanilla color stabilizer.
4. To prepare your colors add Titanium Dioxide to your funnel pitcher, Chocolate Brown Mica Powder to a plastic beaker, and combine the Siesta Sunset Orange Mica Powder and Latte Harvest Red Mica Powder in another plastic beaker. Add a small amount of melted oils to each and blend well.  
5. When lye water and oils are approximately 100°F, you can combine your fragrance oil and stabilizer and allow to sit for 2 minutes. Add your sodium lactate to your lye water and then add your lye water to the oil/butters.
6. Stick blend to a very light trace and then hand mix your fragrance into the batter.
7. Pour approx. 10 oz. of soap batter into the funnel pitcher with white pigment and approx. 1-2 oz. of soap batter into the beaker with chocolate brown mica.
8. Add your premixed orange mica combination to the large bowl of remaining soap batter. Blend all colors well.
9. Pour orange soap batter into soap mold filling approximately 2/3 of the mold. Then pour white soap batter in thin lines back and forth on top of the orange. Alternate pouring thin lines of orange and white batter until the mold is filled. Then pour thin lines of the brown soap batter in thin lines on the top layer. (Do not pour so much brown that you cannot see the other colors.)
10. Insert skewer to the bottom of the mold and swirl from one end of the mold to the other in a circular motion. (If you overswirl your colors will not be as defined.)  
11. Remove the skewer and wipe off excess soap. Then, inserting the skewer into only the top layer of soap, create a more defined swirl pattern to your liking. Tap the mold on the counter to release any air bubbles.
12. Allow soap to sit for at least 24 hours before unmolding. When soap is firm enough you may unmold and slice. 
13. Let soap cure for 4-6 weeks.
14. Label product accordingly.

To Use: Lather onto wet skin and rinse with warm water.  Avoid contact with eyes.
