Honey 'n Oats Cold Process Soap

About This Recipe:

As summer turns to fall, this soap will give you that warm, cozy feel from the inviting scent of oatmeal and honey. This combination of oils and butters adds extra moisturizing properties with every use.

(1) 1 lb Coconut Oil - 76º Melt

(1) 1 lb Sunflower Oil - Refined

(1) 1 lb Babassu Oil

(1) 1 lb Shea Butter - Ultra Refined

(2) 2 oz Evening Primrose Oil

(1) 2 fl. oz Oatmeal n' Honey Fragrance Oil 660

(1) 2 oz Vanilla Color Stabilizer - CP Soap

(1) 2 oz Castor Oil

(1) Oatmeal (ground)

(1) 2.5 gm Bag Caramel Brown Butterscotch Mica Powder

(2) 1 Piece Beaker - Natural Polypropylene

(1) 1 Mold Honeycomb Loaf Silicone Mold 1506

(1) 1 Piece Scoop - 0.15 ml (Micro Size)

• 10.65 oz. Distilled Water
• 4.10 oz. Sodium Hydroxide Flakes
• 8.40 oz. Coconut Oil - 76º Melt
• 5.60 oz. Sunflower Oil - Refined
• 4.20 oz. Babassu Oil
• 4.20 oz. Shea Butter - Ultra Refined
• 4.20 oz. Evening Primrose Oil
• 1.5 oz. Oatmeal n' Honey Fragrance Oil 660
• 0.75 oz. Vanilla Color Stabilizer - CP Soap
• 1.40 oz. Castor Oil
• 1.50 oz. Oatmeal (ground)
• (4) .15 ml Scoop Caramel Brown Butterscotch Mica Powder

• (1) Spatula
• (1) Metal Pot (64 oz.)
• (1) Stovetop
• (1) Stick Blender
• (2) Plastic Spoons
• (1) Small Mixing Spoon
• (1) Small Food Processor
• (1) Wooden Dowel or Skewer
• (1) Scale - Digital Display
• (1) Mix and Pour Funnel or Plastic Container
• (1) Thermometer

Directions:

WARNING: This project and these instructions have been written for someone who has experience making soap and knows the potential dangers due to working with sodium hydroxide. It will not outline all safety methods of working with dangerous chemicals, it is simply a soap recipe for advanced soap makers.

1. To propylene pitcher, add water. Slowly add lye to water stirring as you pour. Set aside to cool.
2. To metal pot, add coconut oil, shea butter, sunflower oil, babassu oil, evening primrose and castor oil. Heat on stove top until all ingredients are liquid.
3. To beaker, pour small amount of melted oils and add mica powder. Mix well.
4. To second beaker, mix fragrance and stabilizer together and allow to sit for at least two minutes.
5. Using a small food processor, grind oatmeal until almost a powder.
6. When oil mixture and lye mixture are both 120ºF, slowly pour lye mixture into oil mixture. Using
   stick blender, mix until light trace is reached.
7. Add fragrance mixture and hand stir with stick blender. Then briefly stick blend.
8. Pour about half of batter into funnel pitcher or plastic container, then add color mixture. Blend in with spatula then briefly stick blend.
9. To remaining batter add ground oatmeal and blend with a few bursts of the stick blender.
10. Pour some oatmeal batter into mold, then follow with colored batter. Keep alternating batter until mold is filled to the top.
11. Using a wooden dowel, drag it back and forth through the batter, going one way then the other.
12. After 24 hours, remove soap from mold and slice into bars. Allow soap to cure for 4-6 weeks.
13. Label product accordingly.

To Use: Lather onto wet skin and rinse off. Avoid contact with eyes.
