Sleepy Lavender Lotion (from scratch)

About This Recipe:

Use this lotion as part of your nightly routine. Massage onto your skin after bath or before bed. The soothing and calming aroma of lavender and coconut along with lavender extract will help relax you into sleep land.  We chose non-greasy oils so there is no need to worry about lotion stains on your sheets.

(1) Distilled Water (not included in kit)

(2) 2 oz Apricot Kernel Oil

(2) 2 oz MCT - Mid Chain Triglycerides Liquid

(1) 2 oz Emulsifying Wax - Soft & Silky

(1) 2 oz Cetyl Alcohol Flakes

(1) 2 oz Glycerin - Natural

(1) 2 oz Lavender Extract - Water Soluble

(1) 1/2 oz Vitamin E Natural T-50

(1) 2 oz Preservative – Phenoxyethanol + CG (Compare to Optiphen)

(1) 2 fl. oz Coconut Lavender Fragrance Oil 1250

(1) 2 oz Vanilla Color Stabilizer - Lotions - Washes

(1) 5 ml Stained Glass Violet Purple Liquid Color

(1) 1 Each Hairnets - 24 inch Disposable

(1) 1 Piece Beaker - Natural Polypropylene

(9) 1 Bottle 04 oz Clear Cosmo Oval Plastic Bottle - 20/410

(9) 1 Piece 20/410 White Ribbed Lotion Pump Top

Recipe Ingredients:

• 23.40 oz. Distilled Water (not included in kit)
• 2.24 oz. Apricot Kernel Oil
• 2.25 oz. MCT - Mid Chain Triglycerides Liquid
• 1.30 oz. Emulsifying Wax - Soft & Silky
• 0.30 oz. Cetyl Alcohol Flakes
• 0.65 oz. Glycerin - Natural
• 0.65 oz. Lavender Extract - Water Soluble
• 0.30 oz. Vitamin E Natural T-50
• 0.30 oz. Preservative – Phenoxyethanol + CG (Compare to Optiphen)
• 0.50 oz. Coconut Lavender Fragrance Oil 1250
• 0.25 oz. Vanilla Color Stabilizer - Lotions - Washes
• 30 Drop(s) Stained Glass Violet Purple Liquid Color

Equipment From Home:

• (1) Microwave-Safe Measuring Cup (64 oz.)
• (1) Microwave
• (1) Scale - Digital Display
• (1) Microwave-Safe Measuring Cup (32 oz.)
• (1) Stick Blender
• (1) Spatulas
• (1) Thermometer
• (1) Scissors

Directions:

NOTE: If you are making these products for sale, good manufacturing practices recommend you wear a hairnet, gloves and a mask. We also recommend a clean apron and workspace.

1. To microwave-safe mixing bowl, add MCT, Apricot Kernel Oil, Emulsifying Wax and Cetyl Alcohol Flakes. Place in microwave and heat until waxes have completely melted.
2. Add water to microwave-safe measuring cup. Heat in microwave for 3 minutes.
3. Stir lavender water into warmed water. 
4. To plastic beaker, mix fragrance oil with vanilla color stabilizer. Let sit for two minutes.  
5. Slowly pour water into melted wax mixture. Using stick blender, begin to blend on low speed.
6. Add glycerin, vitamin e, fragrance mixture and color to desired shade. Continue to blend until mixture seems well incorporated. 
7. Check lotion temperature to be sure it is below 176° F. Stir in the preservative and then continue to stick blend for a few more minutes.
8. Let lotion cool down to around 80°F. Stick blend for 30 seconds then fill bottles to approximately 4 oz. by weight. Any remaining product can be divided between the bottles. Let product cool completely before applying tops. Lotion will thicken as it cools. Trim dip tubes to fit the length of the bottle.**
9. Label product accordingly.

To Use: Massage into skin as desired.
