Oatmeal and Aloe Lotion Recipe

About This Recipe:

This lotion is packed full of skin-nourishing ingredients. The colloidal oatmeal and aloe butter helps moisturize and soothe the skin. This will leave your skin silky smooth without any greasy feel.

(2) 2 oz Emulsifying Wax - Traditional

(1) 2 oz Oatmeal - Colloidal

(1) 2 fl. oz Caramel Woods Fragrance Oil 499

(1) 1/2 oz Vitamin E Natural T-50

(1) 2 oz Preservative - Sorbic Acid +2 PF (Compare to Optiphen Plus)

Recipe Ingredients:

• 50 oz. Distilled Water (not included in kit)
• 5 oz. Aloe Butter Blend
• 2 oz. Grape Seed Oil
• 2 oz. Babassu Oil
• 2 oz. Isopropyl Myristate
• 1 oz. Vanilla Color Stabilizer - Lotions - Washes
• 2.55 oz. Stearic Acid
• 3.50 oz. Emulsifying Wax - Traditional
• 1 oz. Oatmeal - Colloidal
• 2 oz. Caramel Woods Fragrance Oil 499
• 0.50 oz. Vitamin E Natural T-50
• 0.70 oz. Preservative - Sorbic Acid +2 PF (Compare to Optiphen Plus)

Equipment From Home:

• (2) Microwave-Safe Measuring Cup (64 oz.)
• (1) Microwave
• (1) Spatula
• (1) Stick Blender or Hand Mixer
• (1) Thermometer
• (1) Mixing Spoon
• (1) Pastry Bag or Zip Close Bag
• (1) Scissors
• (1) Scale - Digital Display
• (1) Distilled Water

Directions:

NOTE: If you are making these products for sale, good manufacturing practices recommend you wear a hairnet, gloves and a mask. We also recommend a clean apron and workspace.

1. To a large glass mixing bowl, add 50 ounces of water and set aside.
2. To second large bowl, add Stearic Acid, Emulsifying Wax, Grapeseed and Babassu Oils.
3. Place bowl in microwave and heat until waxes have completely melted. 
4. To melted wax/oils, add Aloe Butter. Gently stir to allow butter to soften and melt.
5. In plastic beaker, add Fragrance Oil and Vanilla Color Stabilizer. Let sit for 2 minutes. 
6. Heat water from first step in microwave for two minutes. Add 2 oz. to small bowl and slowly pour remaining water into melted wax/oils.  
7. Using a stick blender or hand mixer, begin to blend ingredients. Continue blending until mixture starts to thicken then turn off mixer.
8. Add Isopropyl Myristate, fragrance oil mixture and Vitamin E. Continue blending. Product should start to thicken. After a minute or two, turn off mixer.
9. Add colloidal oatmeal to remaining 2 oz. of water. Blend with wire whisk until smooth.
10. Check temperature of lotion to be sure it is under 176°F.  Add the preservative and the Colloidal Oatmeal mixture. Mix until incorporated.  
11. Fill bottles with 8 oz. of product by weight. If lotion is too thick to pour, fill pastry bag or zip close bag with lotion. Cut the tip off and fill bottles. 
12. Let product cool completely before applying caps.
13. Label product accordingly.

To Use: Apply to skin as often as needed.
