Coffee CP Soap Recipe

About This Recipe:

This recipe makes a soap bar that is thick, creamy and super rich. The subtle smell of coffee will make you want to eat it!

(1) 2 lb Sodium Hydroxide Flakes

(1) 1 lb Palm Oil

(1) 1 lb Apricot Kernel Oil

(1) 1 lb Coconut Oil - 76º Melt

(2) 2 oz Coffee Butter Blend

(1) 2 oz Castor Oil

(1) 2 fl. oz Coffee Beans - EO & FO Blend 320

(1) 1 Mold Regular Loaf Silicone Mold 1501

(1) 1 Piece Beaker - Natural Polypropylene

Recipe Ingredients:

• 10.64 oz. Distilled Water or Strong Coffee (Chilled)
• 3.31 oz. Sodium Hydroxide Flakes
• 11.2 oz. Palm Oil
• 7.0 oz. Apricot Kernel Oil
• 5.6 oz. Coconut Oil - 76º Melt
• 2.8 oz. Coffee Butter Blend
• 1.4 oz. Castor Oil
• 1.75 oz. Coffee Beans - EO & FO Blend 320

• (1) Polypropylene Pitcher
• (1) Polypropylene Container for lye
• (1) Scale - Digital Display
• (1) Microwave-Safe Measuring Cup (64 oz.)
• (1) Microwave
• (2) Spatulas
• (1) Thermometer - Digital
• (1) Metal Spoon for texturing

Directions:

This project and these instructions have been written for someone who has experience making soap and knows the potential dangers due to working with sodium hydroxide. It will not outline safety methods of working with dangerous chemicals, it is simply a soap recipe for advanced soapmakers.

1. NOTE: The Coffee Butter was placed in the Lye Calculator as Avocado Butter which has the same SAP value. 
2. Measure water/coffee and lye in separate polypropylene containers. Very carefully, pour lye into water and stir until lye is dissolved.
3. Weigh oils and butter and place in microwave-safe glass measuring cup. Microwave on high until butter is melted.
4. To plastic beaker, weigh fragrance oil.
5. When the oils and lye water/coffee mixture are around the same temperature (100°F), it is time to start soaping.
6. Place stick blender in the oils and tap it on the bottom of the bowl to "burp" it and release any air bubbles.
7. Pour the lye water/coffee over the shaft of the stick blender. Carefully blend your oils and lye water until the mixture comes to a very light trace.
8. Slowly add the fragrance oil while stirring the soap with a spatula. (*Coffee is what gives this soap its beautiful mocha color. If you used water you can add color at this point or leave it natural.)
9. Pour the traced soap into your mold.
10. You can now play with the texture on the top. Allow soap to sit overnight uncovered, but carefully insulate the sides of the loaf with a towel.
11. After 36-48 hours, carefully unmold the loaf and slice into 8 one-inch slices. Allow the bars to sit on a cooling rack for 4-6 week to cure fully.

To Use: Lather onto wet skin and rinse with warm water. Avoid contact with eyes.
