Directions:
WARNING: This project and these instructions have been written for someone who has experience making soap and knows the potential dangers. It will not outline all safety methods of working with dangerous chemicals, it is simply a soap recipe for advanced soap makers. - To (2) 8 oz. glass jars, divide up ¼ oz. calendula petals. Fill each jar with 8 oz. rice bran oil and place lids on jars. Place in pot of water on stove top and let steep for 2 hours on low heat
- Using fine strainer, strain 14 oz. oil into measuring cup. Discard the calendula petals.
- In polypropylene pitcher, add water and slowly add lye to water. Carefully mix in well-ventilated area and set aside to cool.
- To clean metal pot, add coconut oil, palm shortening, sweet almond oil and castor oil. Heat on stove top until melted. Add infused rice bran oil and set aside to cool.
- To beaker, add orange powder and a small amount of melted oils. Mix well and set aside.
- To second beaker, mix the fragrance with the color stabilizer and let sit for 2 minutes.
- When both lye solution and oils are 120ºF or below, add sodium lactate to the lye solution and mix.
- Pour lye solution into oils and stick blend until thin trace.
- Add fragrance mixture and stir by hand and then stick blend maintaining a thin trace.
- To funnel pitcher, add 25 ounces of soap batter. Add orange coloring and stir with spatula.
- To remaining batter in metal pot, add 2 Tablespoons calendula petals and stick blend to incorporate.
- To orange soap, stick blend to finish mixing in color. Pour into silicone mold.
- Using the fine mesh tea strainer, sprinkle activated charcoal onto poured soap to create a thin pencil line.
- Pour the remaining soap with calendula petals over the top. Sprinkle with remaining calendula petals.
- Allow soap to set until it is firm enough to unmold (24 hours or longer).
- Remove soap from mold. Let soap cure 4-6 weeks.
- Package and label accordingly.
To Use: Lather with water onto skin. Rinse off. Avoid contact with eyes.
