Directions

Before starting this tutorial please make sure to read all instructions. Use caution when handling melted oils. Spray work surface, utensils and ramekin with 70% isopropanol and wipe with paper towels. Place teaspoons in the freezer 20 minutes before starting (optional).

This recipe makes 7 tubes of lip balm. If you would like to pour a greater number of lip balms, consider using a Lip Balm Tray.

Step 1 - Make the lip balm

Place the Natural Lip Balm Base in a small heat proof ramekin. Microwave on high for 1 minute, swirling after 30 seconds, or until fully melted.

Add 14 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil (or 7 drops Lip Flavor Oil of Your Choice and 7 drops Sweetener Oil) to lip balm. Swirl to mix.

To test the flavor of the lip balm, dip a frozen teaspoon in the melted base and swipe it across your lips. If desired, add up to 7 more drops of Peppermint Essential Oil or mix of Lip Flavor Oil / Lips-Smacking Sweetener Oil.

Step 2 - Pour the lip balms

Carefully transfer the melted base to the lip balm tubes using a disposable pipette. Fill to the top of each tube. To make your tubes steadier, use a rubber band or hair tie to bind them together.

Tip: If the lip balm base has hardened in the pipette, you can microwave the pipette for a few second to get it flowing again.

Place the tubes in the freezer to harden for 10 minutes, or until fully set. To make the tops smoother, use a heat gun or hair dryer set on low to re-melt the tops of the lip balms (optional). Cap tubes and enjoy!

Making Lip Gloss

Our Natural Lip Balm and Body Butter Base makes an excellent shortcut for quick and easy lip products. In a lip balm, this base makes a creamy, matte balm. When you add castor oil, you get a shiny, emolliating gloss.
Note: It is important to use castor oil, and not substitute another oil because castor oil partially dissolves the beeswax in the base, giving a wet, shiny look.

Supplies

Step 1 - Make the lip gloss base

Combine the castor oil and Natural Lip Balm Base in ramekin. Microwave on high for 1 minute, swirling after 30 seconds, or until fully melted.

Add 12 drops each of Lip Flavor Oil of your choice and Lip-Smacking Sweetener Oil. Swirl to combine. To test the flavor, dip a frozen teaspoon in the gloss and swipe it across your lips (see above). If desired, add up to 6 more drops each of the Flavor Oil and Sweetener Oil.

Carefully transfer the lip gloss base to the bottles.

?Step 2 - Add the color

Add 4 scoops of mica to each tube.

Stir with wooden skewer or coffee stir stick until fully combined. If using roller bottle: snap the roller ball on top of each glass bottle. Cap and Enjoy!
