Directions:
NOTE: This project and these instructions have been written for someone who has experience making soap and knows the potential dangers due to working with sodium hydroxide. It will not outline all safety methods of working with dangerous chemicals, it is simply a soap recipe for advanced soapmakers.
  1. Wearing a face mask, prepare the lye solution by weighing the water and lye in two separate containers. Pour the lye into the water, carefully mix in a well-ventilated area and set aside to cool while you prepare your oils.
  2. In a microwave-safe container, add measured oils and butters and melt in the microwave. Set aside to cool.
  3. Measure and cut 2 cardboard pieces for dividers. They should be approximately 8" x 4.5". Make sure they fit snugly into the mold and place them so that the mold is separated into 3 equal sections. Set aside.
  4. In 3 separate funnel pitchers mix your colors using a mini mixer with a small amount of the melted oil/butter combo.
  5. For Light Green, mix 1/2 tsp. Neon Electric Yellow and (1) 0.15 ml scoop Matte Woodland Green.
  6. For Dark Green, mix 1/4 tsp. Matte Yellow Oxide and 1/4 tsp Matte Woodland Green.
  7. For Yellow, mix 1/4 tsp. Neon Electric Yellow and (1) 0.15 ml scoop Matte Yellow Oxide.
  8. When lye water has cooled to around 100°F, add 0.56 oz. Sodium Lactate to the lye water and stir.
  9. When both oils/butters and the lye water are at or below 100°F you can begin to mix. Stick blend to a very light trace and hand blend in the 1.75 oz. Farm Fresh Soap Fragrance Oil. This fragrance caused the soap to rice a little so we used the stick blender in one quick burst to mix.
  10. Separate the batter equally among the 3 funnel pitchers containing your color mixtures. Blend lightly to incorporate each color into the batter.
  11. Holding the 2 pieces of cardboard in place with one hand, begin to pour the batter. Moving quickly pour a small amount of batter into each cavity of the mold keeping each color separated. It is best to pour a small amount of each color batter at a time so that one cavity is not too full compared to the others. If you fill the cavity all at once, it may shift the dividers. (We poured dark green on the end, yellow in the middle and light green on the other end.)
  12. When the mold is filled, slowly lift the dividers straight out and set aside. Tap mold on the counter to release any air bubbles.
  13. Insert your chopstick or skewer into the soap touching the bottom of the mold and swirl by pulling through all three colors in a back and forth motion until you reach the end of the mold. Drag the chopstick straight down the edge of the mold and then pull straight out.
  14. Allow the soap to sit undisturbed for 24+ hours.
  15. When soap is hard enough, you can unmold. To get the pattern through all of the cut bars you should cut the loaf into (3) 2.65" pieces. Cut each of these soap pieces horizontally so you can see the swirl inside.
  16. Let soap cure for 4-6 weeks.
  17. Label product accordingly.
