Directions:
WARNING: This project and these instructions have been written for someone who has experience making soap and knows the potential dangers due to working with sodium hydroxide. It will not outline safety methods of working with dangerous chemicals, it is simply a soap recipe for advanced soapmakers.
  1. To polypropylene pitcher, add distilled water and to a polypropylene container, add sodium hydroxide. Carefully pour the lye into the water and stir until dissolved. Secure lid and place in safe area to cool.
  2. Melt your beeswax, oils and butters over low heat.
  3. To a plastic beaker, weigh out fragrance oil.
  4. Prepare your colorants: premix the titanium dioxide pigment with 2 teaspoons of the melted oil/butter mixture in a plastic beaker. In a second beaker, premix 2 teaspoons of the melted oils with the red oxide combined with the neon pretty in pink powder. Repeat with the green and the yellow hello powders in a third beaker.
  5. Add sodium lactate to cooled lye water and stir.
  6. When the oil/butter mixture and lye/water are at around 120ºF, do the “juice-in-oil method”, where the apple juice is added to the oils, before adding the lye water. With a stick blender, stir to emulsification.
  7. Slowly pour the lye-water into the oils. Stir to light trace.
  8. Separate the soap by pouring the batter equally into 3 separate measuring cups.
  9. Color all 3 cups by pouring each premixed color into a cup of soap batter, starting with white, then green and finally red. Using the stick blender, stir each color briefly, starting with the white.
  10. Now, add the fragrance oil in each cup, splitting it equally. Don’t over stir; you want your soap to reach a light to medium trace.
  11. With a steady hand, perform a “drop swirl” by pouring the colors one after another and dropping the batter here and there. Texture the top as desired with a spoon or swirl it!
  12. Cover the soap to insulate and let it set for 24 to 36 hours.
  13. Carefully unmold the loaf and cut into 8 one-inch slices. Cure the soap for 4 to 6 weeks.
To Use: Lather onto wet skin and rinse with warm water. Avoid contact with eyes.
