Directions:
NOTE: This project and these instructions have been written for someone who has experience making soap and knows the potential dangers due to working with sodium hydroxide. It will not outline safety methods of working with dangerous chemicals, it is simply a soap recipe for advanced soapmakers.- In separate polypropylene containers, weigh out the water and the lye.
- Gradually mix small amounts of the lye into the water until the lye is dissolved completely. Set aside in a safe place and allow to cool.
- Measure all of the oils and butter and place in a large microwave-safe container. NOTE: This will be the container you will stick blend in, so make sure it is large enough.
- Warm oils and butter in microwave or over low heat until melted. Set aside to cool.
- The oils and lye water should be close to the same temperature when you pour them. At around 100°F, you can start soaping.
- Place your stick blender in the oils and tap it on the bottom of the container to "burp" and release any air bubbles.
- Pour the lye water over the shaft of the stick blender. Carefully blend your oils and lye water until the mixture comes to a very light trace.
- Once at a light trace, pour out 8 oz. of the soap into a plastic cup. Add the Spinach Powder and stir. NOTE: The Spinach Powder will speckle. Incorporate as best you can.
- In a small container, add the Rose Kaolin Clay and Fragrance Oil. Mix well until clay is smooth and clump free. Add to main batch of soap and stick blend until blended.
- Pour the rose colored soap into the mold and tap on the counter to release any air bubbles.
- Carefully pour in the "green" soap. You can now play with texture on the top and make your own design.
- Carefully insulate the sides of the loaf with a towel. Allow to sit overnight, uncovered.
- Carefully unmold the loaf and slice into 8 one-inch slices. If available, use a soap stamp to stamp a design onto each bar. Allow the bars to sit on a cooling rack for 4-6 weeks to cure fully.
- Package as desired and label accordingly.
To Use: Lather onto wet skin and rinse with warm water. Avoid eye area.
