About This Recipe:
Spring is in the air and so is the smell of fresh flowers. Lilac bushes will soon be blooming and their aromatic scent will be enchanting! This recipe will make a double layer bar. Directions:
NOTE: This project and these instructions have been written for someone who has experience making soap and knows the potential dangers due to working with sodium hydroxide. It will not outline all safety methods of working with dangerous chemicals, it is simply a soap recipe for advanced soapmakers.
  1. Prepare the lye solution by weighing the water and lye in two separate containers. Pour the lye into the water, carefully mix in a well-ventilated area and set aside to cool while you prepare your oils.
  2. Melt the solid oils (Coconut Oil and Palm Oil) either by microwave or stovetop until melted.
  3. Add Olive Oil and stir.
  4. In plastic container place a teaspoon of the Matte Lavender Ultramarine Powder with a few drops of your melted mixed oils and stir. This helps break down clumps of color when adding to the soap batter. Set aside.
  5. In another container, add a teaspoon of Titanium Dioxide For Oil with a few drops of your melted mixed oils to break up the powder. Set aside.
  6. When lye water and oils have cooled to under 120°F, pour lye into liquid oils and hand stir for a minute with the stick blender. Blend with small bursts and stir until it has emulsified to a light trace.
  7. Split the soap batter into the two containers of colors.
  8. Add 1 oz. of True Lilac Fragrance Oil to the prepared lavender ultramarine/oil mixture and stir with spatula.
  9. Stick blend until it comes to a thick trace and make sure the color is well blended. (Florals move a little fast so this is a great bottom layer scent.)  It will make pouring the top layer easy.
  10. Pour into the bottom of the silicone loaf mold and gently tap down (make sure not to get it on the sides).
  11. Clean off stick blender.
  12. Add 1 oz. of Grapefruit Fragrance Oil to the other half of soap and stick blend until it reaches full trace.
  13. Slowly pour over top of the first layer. Give a few gentle taps on a counter with a good grip on the mold.
  14. Let sit for 24-48 hours in mold.
  15. Take soap out of mold and slice into bars. You can put loaf in freezer for 45 min. to help pop out the loaf from the mold. Let cure 4-6 weeks.
  16. Wrap as desired and label product accordingly.
To Use: Lather onto wet skin and rinse with warm water. Avoid contact with eyes.

Ingredient Label: Palm Oil, Water, Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Fragrance, Titanium Dioxide, Ultramarines.
