Kids' Critters Cold Process Soap

Yield: 20 Bars  |  Est. Time: 1 Hour  |  Level: Advanced – Danger Chemicals

About This Recipe:
Twenty different fun animal shapes are used to make the “critters” in this soap recipe. These guest size bars are perfect for little hands and the palm-free recipe is gentle, even for sensitive skin! The Strawberry Mango Fragrance Formulator* blend will be a big hit for little ones!
*The Strawberry Fragrance Oil has been discontinued. If making this soap, we recommend using a fragrance that has been tested to perform well in CP.

Directions:
WARNING: This project and these instructions have been written for someone who has experience making soap and knows the potential dangers due to working with sodium hydroxide. It will not outline all safety methods of working with dangerous chemicals, it is simply a soap recipe for advanced soap makers.
  1. Using polypropylene pitchers, pour the lye into the water. Carefully mix in a well-ventilated area and set aside to cool while you prepare your remaining oils.
  2. Add all the oils and butters to measuring cup and melt in the microwave or on stovetop. Set aside.
  3. When both the lye mixture and the oils are 100ºF or below, add sodium lactate to the lye water.
  4. In plastic beaker, mix your fragrance formulator blend and stabilizer together and allow mixture to sit for at least two minutes.
  5. Pour the lye mixture into the oils. Stick blend until you reach a thin trace and then add fragrance mixture.
  6. While the soap batter is still fluid, quickly pour into each cavity. (There may be a small amount of leftover batter.) Tap molds on the counter to release any air bubbles.
  7. Allow soap to set for 24 hours or longer until soap is firm enough to unmold. Unmold and allow soaps to cure 4-6 weeks. (If you have difficulty unmolding, place molds in freezer for 30 minutes and then try again.)
  8. Package and label accordingly.
To Use: Lather with water onto skin. Rinse off. Avoid contact with eyes.

Ingredient Label: Olive Oil, Water, Sunflower Oil, Coconut Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Shea Butter, Fragrance, Castor Oil, Sodium Lactate.
