Polishing wood furniture is one of those chores that seems to always come last on the tidying up list. Typically, most people reach for a spray polish to get a little bit of a shine on their furniture and deter dust. While polishes like that work well, they frequently don’t actually condition the wood or help improve the appearance of scratches and water stains.
To help with those scratches and start to see improvement on water stains, you need to use a furniture wax. Furniture wax is typically packaged in jars and is applied to furniture with a soft cloth. It takes a little more elbow grease than the spray polish, but it can make your furniture shine like it did when it was brand new.
Because many people are unfamiliar with how to use furniture wax, we made a step-by-step guide to help.
- Make sure the piece of furniture is clean and dry.
- Rub a soft cloth around the wax until you get a good layer of wax on the cloth.
- Start at one edge of the furniture and polish in small circles.
- After you have a layer of wax on the whole piece of furniture, start to rub the cloth along the grain of the wood.
- Continue rubbing with the grain of the wood until the layer of wax is as thin as possible.
- Leave the wax to dry on the furniture for about 15 minutes.
- With a clean cloth, start to buff the furniture. Rub in small circles until all of the wax layer comes off the furniture.
- Repeat as often as desired to restore the appearance of your wood furniture.
You will see the best results with furniture wax if you polish your wood furniture with them once a month. You can also use the wax as a spot treatment if you get a scratch on a table leg or a guest leaves a water stain on your wood coffee table.
With a little bit of hard work and dedication, your wood furniture will look as good as new in no time thanks to furniture wax.
