Making and marketing face care products can be quite lucrative. Customers tend to see higher value in products marketed toward facial products so you can usually charge a bit more for face care items.

Face care products are formulated with ingredients beneficial to the skin and generally suitable for use on sensitive skin. When formulating face care products, choose oils, butter, additives and essential oils that provide your products with added properties such as higher fatty acids, minerals, vitamins, astringent, antibacterial and gentle exfoliation.

Face Care Exfoliants

Exfoliating the face can be a good thing if done using the right exfoliants. Stay away from exfoliants with sharp edges as they can do more harm than good (sugar, salt, seeds and kernel). See the list below for recommended facial exfoliants.
  • Jojoba Beads - Jojoba beads are smooth and round providing the perfect exfoliation for the face.
  • Clays - Clay is a very light exfoliant so it works well on facial skin. Many clays are throught to help purify the skin due to the naturally high levels of minerals found in clay. Look at individual clays for their added benefits.
  • Natural Luffa Powder - All natural, soft, small grain exfoliant. The size and shape of the product is unlikely to damage sensitive skin.
  • Baking Soda (Sodium Bicarbonate) - Sodium bicarbonate is a wonderful light exfoliant. It is a natural alkaline that neutralizes acids and washes away oils/dirt while leaving skin soft, silky & smooth. Try it in a dry scrub.
  • Oat Scrub - Oatmeal has properties that can benefit your skin. For a lighter exfoliation, grind oatmeal in a coffee grinder to get more of a powder scrub.

  • Evening Primrose Oil - Offers an unusually concentrated source of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). When applied to the skin it is thought to have moisturizing and softening effects.
  • Grape Seed Oil - Thought to preserve the natural moisture in aging skin. It has a reputation for being an oil that easily penetrates the skin.
