Principal uses are for the pre- and post-harvest treatments of fruits and vegetables to maintain firmness, reduce decay, and protect the crops. It is even used to help prevent particular diseases. Calcium chloride briner's grade is also used in making frozen food as a secondary, immersion freezing fluid. Caclium chloride is even used as a personal care ingredient, in bath oils, cosmetics, conditioners. It is hygroscopic in that it absorbs moisture from the air.
